Housing FAQs

Date: 29/10/2024 (Complete by)
Status: Completed
Requested by: Rory Haynes
Summary: Update the text on the page to this: General Accommodation Advice We know accommodation can be a major source of stress for students. To help make your housing journey smoother, we’ve put together some FAQs. [Check out our housing guide] Button Where should I look for accommodation? If you're looking for accommodation, check trusted websites like NTU’s Accommodation webpages, Unihomes, RightMove, and Zoopla. You can also try a specific search based on your needs, like “Student house for four in West Bridgford.” For spare rooms in shared accommodation, look at Spareroom, Facebook, or NTU’s accommodation board. What do I need to know before viewing accommodation? Make sure the property is accredited under the Nottingham Standard for quality and safety. Most properties in Nottingham City require a licence to help maintain standards. For other areas, such as Rushcliffe, larger shared properties may require a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) licence. Viewing properties Always view the property or room in person to ensure it meets your expectations, as photos or descriptions can sometimes be misleading. Tenancy Agreements Most students sign joint fixed-term assured shorthold tenancy agreements. This means you’re renting as a group and the landlord can hold everyone responsible for the rent. Before signing, ensure you know when the tenancy starts and ends and understand your rights under the Tenancy agreements and Tenant Fees Act 2019. Before You Sign Deposits: Your tenancy (damage) deposit should be protected in a tenancy deposit scheme within 30 days. Guarantors: Some landlords require a guarantor, which is a person who will take on financial responsibility if you cannot pay your rent. After Moving In Document the condition of each room with date-stamped photos, check through the inventory provided by the landlord, and report any damages or maintenance issues. Knowing your bin days and local recycling tips can also make settling in easier.

Confetti Officer Manifesto Page

Status: Completed
Requested by: Rory Haynes
Summary: Add section title 'What I've been working on' Add this content underneath: Organising Engaging Events for Confetti Students I have been actively planning and delivering a variety of events to enhance student life and bring people together. So far, I have successfully hosted two Paint & Sip events, offering a relaxed creative space for students to unwind. I have also organised networking events and opportunities to help students connect within the industry and across different courses. Additionally, I planned and delivered ShaG Bingo, a fun and educational event during sexual health awareness and guidance week. Looking ahead, I am working towards assisting with a Battle of the Bands projects, collaborating with different student societies, helping to bring their fantastic idea to life! Designed and Launched a Confetti Student Survey With support from the NTSU Opportunities team, I developed the ‘Totally Painless Survey’ to gather feedback on event ideas, the skills sharing workshops and gauge student opinions on the Confetti/NTU merge. The survey, distributed in late January, provided valuable insights to tailor future events, and improve student experiences. Hosting a Confetti Skill-Sharing Workshop During Industry Week at Confetti, I am hosting a skill-sharing workshop, where Confetti students can showcase and teach their talents in areas such as music, film, sound and lighting, and tech. This initiative fosters collaboration and networking, helping students enhance their skills while learning from their peers in an interactive and engaging environment. Collaborating with NTU Support Services on Mental Health Initiatives Recognizing the importance of student well-being, I am collaborating with NTU support services to introduce pop-up mental health stations, particularly during exam seasons. These stations will provide students with accessible mental health resources and support, ensuring they have the tools to manage academic stress effectively.
